“Armisteadville” is the Colonial-era village which was built to scale by the late Donald Armistead over a 35 year period and donated to the Keeping Society. He gave it in memory of his wife Dorothy Armistead who had been the Curator at the Henry Whitfield House for many years. Mr. Armistead learned each of the six trades featured in the village--blacksmithing, carpentry, cooperage, weaving, basket making and broom-making—in order to outfit them with authentic and working parts. He kept meticulous notebooks of every detail of the construction of the village. These along with a wonderful article from the New Haven Register about the village are on display at the Medad Stone Tavern Museum.
